Pethi Marina se encuentra en Symi Island.
Symi also known as Syme or Simi (Greek: Σύμη) is a small island of Dodecanese, located about 41 kilometres north-northwest of Rhodes, that astounds guests with the quiet environment and the marvelous architecture. Furthermore, Symi island has a standout amongst the most noteworthy ports in the Greek islands, with exquisite manors built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill, offering amazing perspective to the Aegean Sea from any spot.
Yialos (or bay, in Greek) contains the harbour; a beautiful small port, cosmopolitan in character, with a variety of tavernas, bars and cafes spotted around the quayside, while the Chorio (village) further up, although less developed, retains a sense of the old Greece, with its narrows passages, traditional kafenions and its numerous old ruins. The two districts are connected by the famous Kali Strata; a spectacular set of 375 stone steps.
The town of Symi, which is the capital of the island, consists of the wonderful settlement of Chorio and its regular port Gialos. Symi was one of the wealthiest territories in Dodecanese due to the ship building industry and the sponge diving that were vital amid the 20th century. Nowadays, the activities are less practiced, however they've been kept alive as part of the island's tradition.
One of the main attractions of Symi is a Venetian castle, built by the Knights of Agios Ioannis back in 1407. It reigns over the highest peak of the settlement and right by it stands the stone church of Kyra Panagia. Regrettably, this château was severely mangled amid the second World War, when the Germans withdrew and today one can see but few parts of the once strong fortified walls.
A fascinating sight is the Monastery of Panormitis, on the southern side of the island. Symi island, as most Greek islands, is surely to greet its guests with a variety of delicacies, which can be found within skillful restaurants, and tavernas scattered across the island, serving from fish dishes to barbeques, spices, sultanas and interesting sauces to Mediterranean cousine, surely to please every appetite. Here, on this picturesque island, you can indulge in a romantic evening, the promenade along the port being the ideal place for such an occasion.
The island's beaches are small and cozy, but known for being clean, giving waters a turquoise hue. While some are organized, other remain untouched beaches, however they all provide an unwinding air to your Symi holidays Nos beach (whose name comes from Nautical Club of Simi), found 300 metres from Simi Town is ideal for those seeking a relaxing vacation and for nudists, who will love this charming environment.
Nimporios beach, even more secluded than Nos beach, is excellent for a morning walk and then plunging into the transparent waters. Pedi beach, ideal for the crystalline waters and the lovely surroundings, is one of the much preferred destinations in Symi. Despite its somewhat stony shores, its waters are quite transparent and equally enjoyed by guests of all ages.
Perfect for both families and couples, Symi island can easily be visited choosing a one day trip from Rhodes and it welcomes the tourists with its rare charm.
