Honokohau Marina, Hawaii, United States

Honokohau Marina & Small Boat Harbor is located on the western side of Hawaii’s Big Island, in the Kona District. The nearby Kaloko - Honokohau National Historical Park is a popular tourist attraction, home to four ahupuaa (traditional sea to mountain land divisions), as well as sacred temples called heiau and petroglyphs known as kii pohaku. The park also features two Hawaiian fishponds, Honokohau Beach – with a beautiful contrast between the white sands and the black lava rock coastline, and Pine Trees Surfing Beach, where camping is allowed. Just to the south of the marina is the historic Kailua village (Kailua-Kona), where Hawaiian royalty used to spend their summers. There’s a variety of shops and restaurants on the main road of Alii Drive as well as historical landmarks like Hulihee Palace and the Mokuaikaua Church. Hawaii Island is home to one of the most renowned astronomical sites on the planet, the Mauna Kea Observatories. Perched high atop Mauna Kea mountain, the location is ideal to watch the stars and there’s a number of operators offering guided tours.
