Kamares Marina est situé à Sifnos Island.
The charming island of Sifnos (Greek: Σίφνος), known for its Cycladic architecture, golden sand and deep blue waters lies in the Cyclades group, between Serifos and Milos and 130 kilometers from Piraeus, the main port of Athens. Home to 2,242 inhabitants, it is a small but cosmopolite island which will amaze you and your loved ones. Despite the fact that there has been a boom in construction over the last few years, Sifnos has managed to maintain its authentic feel and harmoniously blend tourist facilities with traditional elements, resulting in a highly attractive holiday destination.
Sifnos has a long, prosperous history and archaeological evidence indicates that the island was within the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age Cycladic civilization. In ancient times the island was very wealthy, due to the mining of gold, silver and lead from as early as the 3rd millennium BC. Furthermore, remains of ancient mines are still to be seen, most notably at Ay. Sostis and ancient fortifications can be found while exploring the sites of Ay. Andreas, Ay. Nikitas, and Kastro. In acknowledgement to its many riches, Sifnos was considered the island of Apollo in ancient times.
Nowadays, it remains among the most picturesque Greek islands and its jewel-like villages with white chapels, narrow stone alleys and small cubic houses beautifully decorated with flowers ensure the environment for a most splendid holiday. Kastro is the most beloved village as well as the old capital of the island. The establishment took its name from the castle walls that used to surround and defend it in Medieval times.
Upon further exploration on the island, the villages of Apollonia and Exambela will surely capture your eye and add to your wonderful memories of the island. The church of Seven Martyrs is a notable landmark of the island and probably the most photographed spot. Built in accordance to traditional Cycladic architecture, the small church has a blue dome and whitewashed walls and can be found in the charming Kastro village, atop a rock islet that emerges from the Aegean Sea.
Beaches in Sifnos are beloved by guests due to their untouched charm and unwinding air, appropriate for families. Chrissopigi beach is considered to be one of the most breathtaking places in Sifnos and it took its name from the celebrated monastery of Chrissopigi, built on a rock right over the sea. The idyllic beach, surrounded by a long tuft of trees, ensures tranquility and relaxation within an irresistible Cycladic landscape with soft sand and blue crystal waters, ideal for diving. Platis Gialos, a golden beach that stretches for thousand meters, is ideal for families with plenty of activities and various watersports for both children and adults. Vathi beach is found in a scenic bay lying on the southwestern side of Sifnos, celebrated for its crystalline shallow waters and an amazing surrounding of high cliffs.
Upon further exploration of the island, you are likely to find other peaceful beaches, ideal for total privacy with crystal waters and splendid views of the sea, such as Kamares, Apokoftos, Faros beach or Heronissos.
