After the Cannes Film Festival, all eyes are now on the world’s most prestigious sporting event. This weekend Monte Carlo will be the host to one of the most important and famous automobile races, the Monaco Grand Prix, which will take place on Sunday. Nico Rosberg, the world championship leader, hopes to win it for the fourth time in a row, a record that only Ayrton Senna succeded.
Nico Rosberg, Mercedes: “What I want to do this weekend is try and win this race, just because it’s Monaco and I love winning here and that’s it. That’s only what I’m thinking about. That’s it”
Ayrton Senna holds the record number of wins with six, while Michael Schumacher and Graham Hill have five wins apiece.
Yet, the spotlight is on Max Verstappen from Red Bull. The dutchman became the youngest-ever F1 race winner at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya two weeks ago.
Max Verstappen, Red Bull: “We had good traction out of the last chicane and I knew that was a strong point, so I was always trying to get a good exit and that gave me the race win.”
Yesterday, Red Bull demonstrated that it can beat Mercedes at this weekend’ Grand Prix. Daniel Ricciardo, with an upgraded Renault engine, finished first the second practice session. The Australian driver was followed by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg from Mercedes. On Saturday, we will see who manages to secure the pole position for Sunday’s Grand Prix. The great event will bring together celebrities from movies, sport, music and fashion on the streets of Monaco. Roman Abramovich, Brad Pitt, Hugh Grant, Cara Delevingne, Liz Hurley and George Clooney are just a few stars that attended the race in the past years.
The outstanding Grand Prix can be viewed from stands, VIP welcoming platforms or from yachts anchored in Port Hercule.
