Rural and Quiet. This is my home port, I settled on it after touring many of the others in the area. Its a couple of hours from the sea, so might not suit everybody, but the river is wide so its possible to sail the whole way. The depths are good to the edge, and you can nose in and moor pretty well everywhere. The marina facilities are freshly build and well designed, the pontoons excellent, and there is plenty of parking, and even car charging. Its all there. South of the river is a large boatyard and chandelry, on the north is a smaller pair. There is a restaurant too. You'll find a very warm welcome, so don't hesitate. And its gentle and fairly quiet, except for the boaters....and sheltered. Getting across the river is a bit of a faff if you have a house on the north and boat on the south. There are row boats to borrow, but they are a bit clunky and slow. I take an aluminium boat on a trailer and launch each time.

The neighborhood

Foleux is located in Brittany.

Brittany is one of the 27 regions of France, located in the North-Western side of the country and it is known as a cultural region. It contains 5 departments: Finistere, Cotes-d’Armor, Ille-et-Villaine, Loire-Atlantique and Morbihan. The entire region is surrounded by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, which adds more beauty to the natural aspect of the area, where high cliffs, imposing mountains, a rich cultural and historical heritage and bohemian villages are gathered all in one place.

The simplicity and yet the complexity of this region makes it very special and the tourists who will visit these lands will be marked by the joy that this kind of beauty can bring to the people. From an architectural point of view, Brittany is extremely complex, representing one of the regions where the medieval buildings have been conserved extremely well. The combination of architectural styles here is breath taking and those who are passionate about history, buildings and culture, will feed their thirst of knowledge with such unique pieces of art. Also, the medieval walls are extremely impressive and they offer an authentic air to the villages. Saint-Malo, Rennes, Brest, Vannes, Quimper and Dinan are the most important cities and communes in Brittany and they pride themselves with spectacular marinas, where a great number of tourists are present every year. Saint-Malo, one of these wonderful locations, is known for the piracy actions in the past and the walled port city that is famous all over the world.

The lucky tourists who will decide to visit Saint Malo will be able to enjoy many activities, to relax in the thermal waters, to visit the many museums and exhibitions such as the Musee du Chateu, to enjoy the sensational littoral or take tours by boat, by train or by car. The nightlife here is quite enchanting, too. There are distinguished places to be visited on these lands, such as Les Remparts de Saint-Malo, la Cite d’Aleth, le Demeure de Corsaire, the St. Vincent Cathdral, the Jacques Cartier Manor House, the Fort du Petit Be, the Fort National and so many others.

Rennes is another exquisite place in the region of Brittany where a short journey is never enough. This city is considered the capital of the region and there are many significant sights that can be visited here, due to the historical events that happened in the past and have placed a great weight on Brittany’s shoulders. The historic centre of the city is split into a few areas that have an important historical meaning for the city, such as the Parlement de Bretagne and the city hall area, the Place des Lices and Cathedral area, the remains of the ramparts, the Place Saint-Anne area, the Thabor Park area and the South City Centre.
