Wharf de Leava

The Wharf de Leava, located in the village of the same name on the south west coast of Futuna, is the only port on this 80 km2 island that along with Wallis forms the French overseas the community of Wallis and Futuna. These two volcanic islands lie 230 km away from each other, right in the middle of the Polynesia region. Leava, a village of 500 people, is situated in the centre of Sigave Bay and functions as the administrative centre of Futuna, a sparsely populated island with a rugged coastline and pristine beaches. Other than the occasional tourist boat that docks here, the wharf is almost exclusively used by cargo boats. One of the most impressive sights is Pointe Pyramides, a pyramid-shaped rock on the south eastern tip of Futuna. The highest point is Mont Puke, at 524 m, offering spectacular views of the island and ocean. Apart from the coastline villages, the territory is occupied by lush tropical forests, giving visitors the impression that they’re the only people on the island.
