Mallorca, the largest Spanish island, is located in the Western side of the Mediterranean Sea, about 170 km away from the coastline. The island that is also known as Majorca is famous for its luxury, its modern beauty, its natural environment and the ancient beauty. The capital of the island is Palma, which is one of the most popular summer destinations for tourists from all over the world, but especially from the United States and Canada, the Netherlands, the Scandinavian countries, the UK, Germany, Poland or Ireland. Its name derives from the Latin word “maior”, which means “the larger one”.

Mallorca was first heard of during the Paleolithic period, when prehistoric settlements that were called talaiots used to exist here. The traces of the people who lived between 6000 - 4000 BCE have been unveiled and their ruins can still be admired. The island was inhabited by Phoenicians, Romans, Gunderic and Vandals and later on, by Arabs and Catalans. The historical and cultural local heritage is very rich and the ancient ruins were very well preserved through time.

Today, Mallorca is divided into 6 regions: Palma, Serra de Tramutana, Raiguer, Pla de Mallorca, Llevant and Migjorn. Each region has its own beauty that is given by the imposing mountains and impressive waters, the rich agricultural life and the modern lifestyle that can be found almost everywhere. This destination is extremely popular, both in the summertime and during the rest of the year, thanks to its cultural inheritance.
