The neighborhood

Agios Stefanos Marina is located in Tilos Island.

Tilos (Greek: Τήλος; ancient form: Telos) is a small island of Dodecanese, found in the middle of Kos and Rhodes. Far from mass tourism, Tilos island is an ideal destination for those seeking serenity, with isolated beaches and small, charming villages.

In folk culture, Telos was the child of Helios and Halia, the sister of the Telchines. He arrived on the island looking for herbs to mend his sick mother, and later returned to establish a sanctuary to Apollo and Neptune. However, Telos (Telo or Tilo) are not encountered in Greek mythology and the name presumably has an obscure pre-hellenic origin.

Tilos island has two main villages, Megalo Chorio and Livadia. Megalo Chorio is the capital of the island and has been built on the slopes of a mountain. Livadia is the port of the island and the most visited spot. However, the most intriguing spot is Mikro Chorio, a ghost village with deserted buildings. Amidst the ruins of the village stands a small bar that works only during the summer. It is definitely a rare experience to enjoy a beverage, while wandering around the ruined neighborhoods of Mikro Chorio. This mysterious atmosphere is equally exciting and relaxing for each visitor.

The Medieval Castle is located on top of a steep mountain, right above Megalo Chorio. It was constructed by the Knights of Saint John and climbing up can prove to be laborious, but the splendid view is surely rewarding. The Monastery of Agios Panteleimon, located at the end of the only road on Tilos, is the most important church on Tilos and the protector of the island. The shorelines of Tilos are for the most part untouched and perfect for complete privacy. Some of them are additionally naturist spots and they can by approached on foot or by means of the small local bus.

Livadia, the closest to the main port of Tilos, is the most popular beach, stretching for a couple of km of sand and pebbles. Well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas spreading from the beautiful waterfront of Livadia, it is a popular resort in Tilos for the plethora of hotels and seaside restaurants. The tranquil Eristos beach is located 3 km south of Megallo Chorio, giving all those who explore it the chance to spend some time in total isolation around this beautiful environment with crystal waters.

The island can easily be toured among one day trips from another Dodecanese island, its tranquil air definitely deserving a visit.
