Avelomona Marina is located in Kythira Island.
Lying opposite the south-eastern tip of the Peloponnese peninsula, Kythira island is a lovely family destination in Greece, renowned for its secluded atmosphere. Surrounded by the smooth waters of the Ionian Sea, this pure marvel of an island belongs to the Ionian group, despite the fact of its remote location from the other islands within group.
The Venetian Castle of Kythira is without a doubt the most distinctive monument on the island, offering guests breathtaking view to the Aegean Sea and the southern coasts of Peloponnese. On the left side of the castle's entrance is where the prisons used to be, whereas on the right side there is a huge cistern that dates back to the Venetian period. The center offers displays of ruins from two-storied houses, originally inhabited by the conquerors of the island and you can also find four splendid churches within the castle walls, the biggest of which is Panagia Myrtidiotissa. Within the place of worship, you can admire the miracle-working icon of Myrtidiotissa, which served to protect the city from the pirate's invasions.
The Cave of Agia Sofia is a stalagmite wonder found 20 kilometers north-west of Chora. Within, lies the chapel dedicated to Agia Sophia, hosting impressive holy icons and fine frescoes, such as the fresco with the figure of Agia Sofia and her three daughters. Legend states that the body of Saint Sofia was found there and the residents of Mylopotamos village raised a place of worship to her honor, in 1875. The monastery of Agia Moni, another noteworthy landmark is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, celebrated yearly on August 6th. The place of worship was built in 1840, on the top of a very high mountain, offering splendid views on the harbor of Diakofti, and as such, is worthy of a trip.
