Nelson Yacht Club Inc, New Zealand’s oldest yacht club, is located in the city of Nelson, on the north shore of South Island. One of the sunniest cities in New Zealand, Nelson is the perfect base to set out exploring the Abel Tasman National Park, a coastal paradise that you can walk through or view by cruise boat, sailing catamaran, water taxi or sea kayak. Open all year-round, the coastal track links a multitude of coves with golden sand and granite cliffs. West of Nelson you’ll find the beach towns of Marahau and Kaiteriteri, bathed by the clear blue-green waters of Tasman Bay. Both offer water taxis and kayak tours to Abel Tasman National Park. Further north is Collingwood, a quiet town at the western end of State Highway 60, that offers a large variety of activities for nature lovers. From here you can explore the Heaphy Track in the Kahurangi National Park or the beautiful Aorere Valley; kayak or paddle around Ruataniwha Inlet.
