The neighborhood

Órmos Lipso Marina is located in Leipsoi Island.

Leipsoi is a cluster of islands gracefully floating in the Eastern Aegean, with merely 698 tenants. Lipsos, the main island after which the cluster was named, lies in the middle of Patmos and Leros. The group incorporates other small islands, such as Aspronisia, Kalapodia, Fraggo, Plavi and so on.

The island has numerous splendid beaches. Lientou has simple access from the capital and is consequently favored by most tourists; Platys Yalos is a glorious sandy beach, while Papandria offers a magnificent view. Hohlakoura beach is pebbly, and has numerous sublime caves, inviting tourists to wander in amazement, while other noteworthy shorelines include Tourkomnima, Xerokampos, Monodendri and Kamares.

Here you can have a taste of the local flavor, indulging in thyme honey (produced the traditional way), savory wine, cheese, dairy products( touloumotyri cheddar, the local version of mizithra) and juicy grapes.

Upon further exploration, you may encounter locals using loom-woven fabrics, carpets and "fookadia" and observe their mastery while straining the traditional cheese. If you are inspired enough to arrive in August, you will run into the most important festivity on the main island - the Wine Festival. This event is well advertised, as the island has a long wine-making tradition, just like Santorini and Samos. Another important festivity is "Klidonas", in honour of John the Stoker, amid which vast pyres are lit on the island, women bring the so-called silent water to village square, and people sing and dance all day long.

There are numerous churches and sanctuaries scattered on the island; truth be told, it is said that there is one sanctuary for each family living here. One of the well known places of worship is that of "Panagia tou Harou" (Virgin Mary of Death) for two reasons: its unique architectural style( island-byzantine) and the icon of Virgin Mary holding crucified Jesus in her arms, a rarely depicted moment among icons. The church of Agios Ioannis Theologos is yet another fascinating place of worship, raised with carved stones. At long last, the church of "Koimisi Theotokou" (Assumption of Mary) can be spotted among trees and nature, with an adjacent spring of cool water. Tourists might additionally be drawn towards the Ecclesiastical and Folk museum at the centre of Leipsoi city. It displays icons dating to the 16th and 17th century, crosses and gold-woven vestments, traditional costumes, coins and so forth.

There is a little archaeological collection as well, containing pieces of a marble ionic column head (4th century BC) and lights (3rd century BC). The exotic island contains springs at Fountani, alias Pikri Nero, in the area near Kimissi along with other minor springs also flowing in this region.

One must not say goodbye to this splendid region of the world without a trip to The Cave of Ontas.
