The neighborhood

Kalamata Marina is located in Peloponnese.

The Peloponnese (/ˈpɛləpəˌniːz/) or Peloponnesus (/ˌpɛləpəˈniːsəs/; Greek: Πελοπόννησος, Pelopónnēsos) looks like a plane tree leaf and that is why it was formerly called "Morias". The charming Peloponnese is a beloved region in the south of Greece, which used to be a peninsula connected to the rest of Greece by the Isthmus of Corinth, in ancient times. Nowadays, the region is separated from the mainland by the narrow Corinth Canal, however there are many bridges connecting Peloponnese to Attica across the canal. It is a highly cultural area and has become very popular, being celebrated by many tourists from all over the world, especially during the summer season.

Its many natural beauties – mountains, forests, rivers and caves surrounded by the sea, sandy beaches, completed by monuments from every period of the eventful Peloponnesian history, breathtaking archaeological sites and gorgeous Byzantine churches make The Peloponnese region a highly sought after holiday destination, and surely one that should be included in your travel guide. Peloponnese has a dry climate on the east, cold, snow and rich vegetation in its central and mountainous parts and rain and heat on the west.

Guests visiting from Attica most commonly stop at the prefecture of Korinthos, as it offers a tremendous assortment of alternatives for visiting - entrancing massifs, lovely sea-side resorts, not to mention the majestic archeological sites. The splendid shorelines in Korinthos and the Saronic Gulf are well equipped tourist facilities, making your stay as comfortable as possible and in many spots the sparkling sea blends in with the pine and olive trees and the grape vines, delivering an enticing scenery.

While here make sure to experience delicious taste of the Corinthian raisin, as it is renowned worldwide. Ilia is another important landmark, as this was the very spot where the Olympic Games took place and it used to be the region’s center in antiquity. Nowadays, it thrills those who visit it with an unique combination of mountainous and sea views, as its breathtaking vacation towns are beautifully decorated with fresh pine trees which stretch down to the sea.

Ilia delights those in seek of sunbathing, swimming and caters to guests with a love of history, as it is home to some of the most important archaeological sites in the area, Olympia, Ilis, the Temple of Epicurios Apollo. Laconia is an area blessed with elements of natural beauty, such as the Diros caves, Mt. Taygetos and cape Tainaros. Furthermore, the village contains famous sites, which will take you on an enchanting journey to medieval times. Mystra, the breathtaking fortress city at Monemvasia, completed by the tower houses in Mani provide an exceptionally accurate window in Greece’s past.

For those in seek of beautiful sandy beaches and spectacular landscapes of mountains and seaside, Archaia is the place to go. Be amazed at the majesty of Panachaiko, Helmos and Erymanthos mountains, for a holiday like you have always dreamed of.
