The neighborhood

Marina Puerto Bahia is located in Samaná.

Samaná is a province located in the Northern part of the Dominican Republic. Santa Bárbara de Samaná, often referred to simply as Samaná, is the most important cultural and economic city of the region and its administrative center.  Samaná was blessed with a privileged position, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, and with a splendid range of mountains and a myriad different beach. These are the main reasons why tourists from every corner of the world come to visit this region.

Samaná was originally inhabited by the indigenous tribes of Taínos. The famous explorer Christopher Columbus was the first European person who set foot on this side of the island. It is believed that the locals showed a reluctant behavior to this first encounter and a general defensive attitude toward the colonists. Nevertheless, the region was colonized as well as the rest of the country and nowadays its trade and touristic activities make it one of the prosperous areas in the Northern part of the Dominican Republic.

The main reasons that account for this area’s touristic success are its wild beaches where travelers come to dive, practice water sports and snorkeling or book a berth and enjoy the sightseeing. Samaná is cherished for its beautiful rocky relief which turns it into a great hiking experience.

The local flora and fauna are also particular; this region is one of the areas where the humpback whales gather to breed. Therefore, whale watching is one of the most popular touristic attractions.

There are plenty exotic places in this province; one of the most common destination is Los Haitises National Park which boasts an extraordinarily complex ecosystem containing limestone formations, cliffs, caves and luxuriant vegetation. The best way to enjoy the view is berth booking, this allows travelers to explore all the hidden beauties. For prior booking, check out the available options at

Las Galeras is situated in the Eastern part of the province, and it praises a large number of unspoiled beaches guarded by huge palm trees. Some of the most famous beaches in this area are Madama Beach, La Playita, and Playa Grande.

Punta Balandra is a great destination for hiking lovers who can admire the view from the observatory.

Las Terrenas is another major attraction for travelers; this used to be a village inhabited by fishermen, but nowadays it turned into a quite chic location hosting cozy restaurants and bars, accommodation facilities and wild beaches.

The capital city of the province, Santa Barbara de Samaná is the best place for those who are fond of art and history; here they can visit a unique temple called La Churcha, take a walk downtown and see the local market or spend a  lovely evening in a bar.

Samaná is a great holiday destination for those who want to relax near the sea and enjoy nature’s unparalleled beauty.
