The neighborhood

Marina Cap Cana Yacht Club is located in La Altagracia.

La Altagracia is a province in the Eastern part of the Dominican Republic, located on the coast. This region has seven municipal districts, and its capital city is Higüey. The significant advantage of this province is the fact that it is literally surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, three of its sides being bathed in these waters. Probably the most popular touristic destination in the region is Punta Cana, situated in the Higüey municipality. However, there are plenty other beautiful sights and beaches where travelers regularly come to enjoy the sun and warm Caribbean waters.

This province was an early Spanish colony. In the 16th century, it was conquered by the Castellan explorer Juan de Esquivel who built here a fortress. An interesting fact in this area’s history relates to its name; the province was called La Altagracia due to a painting named ‘Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia’ which was brought by the first Spanish colonists from Europe. It is believed that this religious artifact has accomplished numerous miracles throughout the centuries.

The region’s prosperity and development are mainly due to its extensive tourism.  La Altagracia is a frequent destination for its beaches and also for its strong religious tradition. Some of the most famous hotel resorts in the world offer accommodation in this province and the broad range of services cover everything from organized tours to berth booking.

There are many famous destinations in La Altagracia. Altos de Chavón is a village located in La Romana, where tourists can admire the peculiar Mediterranean architecture, heritage of the European settlers, and the historical objectives like the cultural center and the museum of archeology. The national park ‘Parque National Del Este’ is a sheltered area where tourists can admire the coral reefs and fascinating wildlife including mangrove forests and numerous species of fish and exotic birds. The Marinarium and other diving centers in Punta Cana offer an exciting experience for adventure lovers. Hoyo Azul, situated in Punta Cana, is another major attraction as the lagoon’s turquoise waters and the relief full of cliffs create a breathtaking view.

Some of the most famous beaches where tourists enjoy relaxing moments or adventurous water sports are the beaches on island Saona with fascinating white sands and clear waters. Isla Catalina’s beaches are home to fascinating species of sea creatures that will delight snorkeling lovers, and Macao Beach in Punta Cana, is a lovely spot where travelers can take up to any water sports or sailing. There are numerous opportunities to book a berth and admire the sights. MarinaReservation.com offers many options that can fit groups of tourist or individual travelers. Other famous beaches are the Bavaro Beach, Dominicus Beach, Los Corales Beach, Juanillo Beach or Playa Uvero.

La Altagracia offers top touristic services, and there are plenty bars and discos for those who are fond of nightlife. All in all, this is a terrific touristic destination where travelers can relax, have fun and visit the wonderful natural sights.
