The Moorings is located in Tortola.

Tortola is an island belonging to the archipelago of the British Virgin Islands, an overseas land that represents one of United Kingdom’s dependencies. It is the biggest component of this group of islands, and it hosts the largest number of inhabitants. The most important economic and cultural center in Tortola is Road Town. The island offers plenty touristic attractions; therefore, it is visited by thousands of travelers from all over the world.

The early history of this territory began with its first inhabitants, the Arawak tribes. They were vanished at the beginning of the 15th century by the Carib tribes. In the second half of the same century, the Europeans started to come here. The island was discovered by the famous explorer Christopher Columbus. The Spanish were the first who tried to conquer the territory, but the British were the ones who succeeded to dominate it toward the end of the 16th century.

Nowadays, Tortola is still a place foreigners seek after; the difference is that now they come here to relax by the beach, practice water sports, enjoy the quiet surroundings or book a berth and go sailing.

The island offers many beautiful views and it is filled with intriguing cliffs, the highest peak being Mount Sage. The Sage Mountain National Park is the best destination for those who are passionate about hiking. A large surface of the park comprises rainforests and the extraordinary wildlife plant species will amaze any traveler.

The Rhone National Marine Park is another top touristic attraction. Visitors come here to dive and explore the mysterious shipwreck laying on the bottom of the Caribbean Sea and the spectacular wildlife species.

The Smuggler’s Cove is a beautiful coastal location for those who seek privacy as the quiet beach with its vast golden sands is an excellent getaway.
