Hvar is a fabulous display of beautiful surroundings and cozy towns. This picturesque island has been inhabited since ancient times by the Greeks. The safest and oldest port on the island, Stari Grad is a testimony of those times. The town of Stari Grad started being inhabited by Greeks around the year 300 BC. The remains of their civilization are today exhibited in the Stari Grad Museum, which, in its turn, is a piece of architectonic jewelry. Another attraction in Stari Grad is the Tvrdalj, a formidable fortified residence built in the Renaissance style by the poet Peter Hektorović.

The other main attraction on the island is the town of Hvar where you can visit numerous historical sites. The landmark of the town is the great 16th century fortress overlooking it. If you climb up there, do take your camera as the panoramic view is spectacular. Hvar's cathedral, the theater, the Franciscan and Dominica monasteries are other must-see spots of this emblematic medieval town.
