Portorož Marina (known as well as Portorose in Italian, literally meaning "Port of Roses") is hosted by the coastal town that wears the same name. It is situated in the municipality of Piran, on the south-western coast of the Adriatic coastline of Slovenia and was the first marina built in Slovenia. Portorož belonged to the Venetian Republic until its collapse at the end of the 18th century, then came under the Austrian rule until the end of the First World War. The coast of Slovenia is only 46km long, and both Italy and Croatia are visible from Portorož. Travelers who will reach this touristic port will encounter one of the largest European seaside resorts that attract a large number of holidaymakers and nautical enthusiasts. Portorož is renowned for its casinos and the luxurious Palace Hotel, located just in the resort’s centre. Culture enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take part in annual events such as the Festival of the Slovenian Film or the International Sculpture Symposium Forma Viva.
